Manufacturer wins innovation award

MSA’s Latchways Centre of Excellence in Devizes, UK has won the Manufacturing Innovation Award for its Mini Personal Fall Limiter (PFL) at the Made in the South West Awards, held in Bristol.

The design, manufacture and sale of the MSA patented Latchways Mini PFL was seen by the judges as a significant breakthrough for the company, particularly in the challenging US market. With production up four-fold since launch, the judges felt the company from Devizes in Wiltshire was a worthy winner.

Andrew Pass, engineering manager for the MSA Latchways range who collected the award, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to get this recognition especially in the company of such well respected engineering and manufacturing firms. All of the team at MSA work collaboratively towards the same goals, to help keep people safe globally and also strengthen the company – it’s a great ethos and I know we’ll all enjoy this win!”

The Mini PFL is said to be the first fall protection product to incorporate radial energy-absorbing technology. This patented technology was developed by the Latchways team to eliminate the need for an external energy absorber – traditionally a feature of PFLs – allowing the user to move freely around a worksite with a more compact and lightweight solution. Together with the use of high quality and durable materials, the Latchways Mini PFL is said to be one of the smallest and lightest self-retracting lanyards on the market.
