300 Hull workers walk out over H&S concerns
Almost 300 construction staff have walked off the site of a £200m power station being built in Hull.
Around 300 workers walked off a construction site in Hull on 25th January. They returned to work the next day, but walked out again despite managers claiming the site was safe.
The walk-outs at the Energy Works site on Cleveland Street were triggered by concerns over health and safety as well as the standard of facilities for contractors.
Concerns raised by workers included a lack of fire alarms, leaking waste pipes and the poor condition of the car park.
In a statement, Energy Works, said: "A representative from Energy Works is in attendance at the energy-from-waste facility which is under construction on Cleveland Street, Hull, and can confirm the site remains operational and works are continuing. Furthermore, an independent health and safety audit was undertaken on Wednesday that confirmed the site is being operated and controlled in a safe manner."
