Keep drinking water safe

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Plumbers come in all varieties; high-tech, old school, big brand, small business, recommended by a friend or neighbour. However, the best way to keep drinking water safe is said to be to pick a plumber approved by WaterSafe.

WaterSafe is a central register funded by all UK water companies and supported by the drinking water quality regulators. The NHS uses WaterSafe approved plumbers as they have specific training in Water Fittings Regulations and Byelaws, which helps prevent the risk of contamination of drinking water.

For most types of plumbing work in homes, schools and businesses, the owners have a legal duty to notify their water supplier before they start work, while approved plumbers can carry out some work without notification and are able to provide a ‘work completed’ certificate.

Clean water is fundamental to good health and is at the heart of daily activities – drinking, cooking and washing. Take a chance on your installer and you could pay the price – not just with the health of your water, it costs an average of £426 to fix a bodged plumbing job. With WaterSafe you have complete peace of mind about your plumber’s training and a commitment their work meets safety standards.

Visit watersafe.org.uk to find your local WaterSafe approved plumber, or call 0333 207 9030.
