The high number of injuries
experienced by fisherman working at
sea has prompted a charity to back free
physio services for UK fishermen.

Working at sea is one of the most
challenging jobs in the UK,
and back, leg and arm
injuries are
common but the
amount of time
fishermen spend
offshore means it can be a problem
getting treatment for the workrelated
injuries many experience.

That’s why the Seamen’s Hospital
Society (SHS) is promoting easy-toaccess
physiotherapy treatment for
fishermen in Kilkeel (Northern
Ireland), Brixham (Devon) and
Peterhead (north east Scotland). This
follows the success of a pilot physio
service set up with SHS funding in
Newlyn.
