Rise in fatal falls

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

RECENT STATISTICS from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reveal a troubling rise in workplace fatalities due to falls from height. In 2023/24, falls from height accounted for 36% of the 138 work-related deaths in Great Britain.

PRR Safety, is committed to helping reduce the number of falls and aims to:

  1. Enhance Training Programmes: Ensure all workers are thoroughly trained in height safety and understand the risks and precautions necessary to prevent falls.
  2. Improve Equipment Standards: Advocate for stricter regulations and regular inspections to ensure all safety equipment meets the highest standards.
  3. Support Better Reporting Systems: Push for a streamlined and detailed incident reporting system to better understand the causes of falls and develop effective preventive measures.
  4. Promote Legislative Action: Support the re-establishment of the APPG on Working at Height and other legislative efforts aimed at improving workplace safety.

The company is urging industry stakeholders, policymakers, and safety professionals to get ahead of the issue. The company says, "By working together, we can implement robust safety measures, enhance reporting accuracy, and ultimately reduce the number of tragic fatalities resulting from falls from height."
