Safer culvert cleaning

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Cleaning out large culverts and drains has always been a dirty and dangerous manual task.

In 2010, obnoxious gasses released from stagnant water in a culvert overcame an operator digging silt and stones from an under-road culvert. This incident brought the dangers of culvert cleaning to the attention of health and safety professionals. It also coincided with the first use of remote controlled culvert cleaning machines, developed to help make the task safer.

Today, the health and safety of operators is combined with fast cleaning of large culverts using the SOLO Culvert Cleaner; a purpose-designed remote controlled machine that keeps the operator out of harm’s way.

SOLO Culvert Cleaner is a six-wheel drive, all-terrain and diesel-powered machine. With its large loader bucket, all-round lighting and remote camera system, operators can stand outside the culvert and operate the machine easily and safely.
