Electrical inspection guide

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

For anyone seeking to improve safety and reliability whilst streamlining the process of inspecting electrical systems and cutting costs, a new publication from IRISS is said to be an essential read.

Entitled ’10 Things You Need to Know About Infrared Windows’, this book has been written as a guide to the science behind the technology, its practical application and best practice in the safe and effective inspection of energized systems.

This is the second edition of this popular book which goes into greater depth than its forerunner. Pocket-sized, it features an additional chapter on installation considerations for IR windows. It also includes information on new developments in IR window lens materials, such as transparent polymer, that allows inspection in UV, visual and all three infrared spectrums.

Having defined an infrared window, the book explores the important variables that can lead to possible measurement errors such as emissivity, reflection, distance, humidity and camera angle.  It then takes the reader through the factors governing the size of windows needed for the application and their correct installation. Standards compliance, risk assessment and the wide-ranging business benefits of an infrared window programme are also covered in depth.

’10 Things’ is available as a hard copy publication from the IRISS UK sales office or as a digital download via  www.iriss.com/10things
