Metalwash ‘Launderette’ takes off…

A new service called  the ‘Metalwash Launderette’ which specialises in collecting and cleaning almost any type of old or used metal component and delivering it back to customers ‘as new’ has been set up by Gloucestershire based company Metalwash Limited.

One of the service’s first clients is Paul Bailey who runs Aviator Art which he operates from a hangar at Cotswold airport near Kemble, Gloucestershire, where he turns parts of old aeroplanes into imaginative and practical pieces of furniture. Paul had seen the potential of turning a jet exhaust pipe from a 1980’s BAe 146 short haul passenger jet into an attractive glass-topped table incorporating a central champagne and ice bucket, but the pipe had a high build-up of ingrained carbon – and that’s where the ‘Metalwash Launderette’ came in.

Says Paul: “It was perfect timing. Just when I needed a solution to my cleaning problem I had a call from the company and a few days later I had a beautifully clean and shiny jet-pipe ready for the glass top”

Michele Turley who manages the new service said: “The work we do for Aviator Art is interesting and rewarding. Paul’s ‘champagne table’ looks fabulous and is just one example of how we can apply our technology to the cleaning and restoration of virtually any metal part”

Metalwash Limited, which supplies specialised, environmentally-friendly cleaning equipment on a service rental basis to larger scale businesses, was established in 1995 by the CEO, James Marshall, and now has service depots in Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Bedfordshire.  Since the company first started, it has grown its customer list to include industry giants such as Siemens, Tesco, M.A.N. and Scania.
