Lone worker safety

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

With winter approaching, the risks facing lone workers across the UK are beginning to grow. Many employers recognise the potential hazards their staff face but not all are taking adequate steps to minimise risks.

Andy Farrall, a chartered safety practitioner at Communicare says: “Managing lone worker safety to an effective level goes beyond simply handing over a gadget to be triggered in case of emergency. Senior management must ensure their strategic and tactical plans are in place well in advance of any emergency.”
Communicare says it can help put an effective plan in place, offering a range of products to track the movements of lone workers. BS8484-certified, the company guarantees a police response if an alarm is raised.
The smartphone app allows lone workers to ‘check-in’ with its secure response centre, where specially trained staff will raise the alarm if the lone worker fails to check-out again within an agreed timeframe.
