Greener and cleaner

Interlocking floor tiles specialist, Ecotile, has announced the latest addition to its range of heavy duty industrial, commercial and domestic flooring solutions.

The development of an innovative, twin-shot manufacturing process at its fully automated UK production facility in Luton enables Ecotile to produce its interlocking floor tiles – now with a recycled core – for reduced long-term environmental impact.

James Gedye, Managing Director of Ecotile comments: “At Ecotile we invest heavily in R&D and engineer our manufacturing processes to ensure that we deliver greener, cleaner solutions to our customers.  Our manufacturing facility generates zero waste and our products are 100% recyclable.  As a business, we only use raw materials that are compliant with internationally recognised and adopted standards for performance, quality and impact on the environment.   In order to continue to build on our eco credentials, we have worked closely with industry partner, 4Plas, to identify opportunities to introduce a significant element of recycled material into our most popular products.”

The new process consists of twin pipes that push recycled PVC through the system to form the tile’s core – making up about 30% of the end product – whilst simultaneously pushing pure PVC through the system to form the remainder of the tile around the core.

Gedye continues: “We are extremely proud of this latest product development that combines unrivalled Ecotile quality with genuine innovation and a reduced environmental impact.  As well as being able to offer a recycled product within our range, all of our floor tiles are also fully recyclable at the end of their product life.”

The new machine will first be used to manufacture the 10mm thick tile as this is the product where the greatest savings are to be made and where we can offer our customers unrivalled value for money. We will then apply this innovation to a limited selection of the 7mm tiles and the ESD versions.

Installation is fast and simple; Ecotile provides a durable and practical solution to the full spectrum of flooring challenges – from excessive wear, paint de-lamination, dust, damp or contamination.

As with all Ecotile flooring tiles, the products are REACH compliant and come with a 10 year warranty as standard.  Furthermore, Ecotile is the only interlocking flooring tile manufacturer that holds the full complement of quality accreditations and certifications including ISO9001 / 14001, CE Mark, BFI S1 Fire Rating and the R10 anti-slip rating.
