AFI machines help with bridge revamp
Boom and scissor lifts from AFI are being hired by contractors working on the Grade II listed Tees Newport Bridge in the North East.
Wood Group Industrial Services has hired 12 scissor lifts and 20 boom lifts to help carry out structural repairs, deep cleaning and painting of the 80-year-old bridge. All the boom lifts are fitted with the SanctuaryZone secondary guarding device.
AFI undertook site surveys to help specify the boom and scissor lifts required for the contract and also provided machine familiarisation to Wood Group Industrial Services personnel.
Wood Group Industrial Services’ technical director, Brendan Fitzsimons, said: “We hired an assortment of boom lifts ranging in size from 45’ to 135’ and Skyjack scissor lifts, mainly 50’, to provide our contractors with safe and speedy access to the bridge structure. We asked for SanctuaryZone to be fitted to the boom lifts as it is our company policy to always specify this particular secondary guarding device.”
The 82 metre road bridge, linking Middlesbrough with Stockton-on-Tees, is being painted red and silver to mark its 80th anniversary.
