National asbestos disposal network

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

National waste management services provider Biffa, has launched asbestos disposal service Biffa Asbestos.

Biffa Asbestos will benefit from a national disposal network that includes 12 dedicated regional centres throughout the UK, supported by a team of more than 85 specially trained drivers and a fleet of 200 exchange vehicles.

Asbestos remains a common problem across UK residential and commercial properties, with an estimated 50 per cent believed to still harbour the substance.

In 2013, there were more than 3,000 asbestos related deaths in the UK and more than 2,000 diagnoses of asbestos-related diseases. Employers who do not adequately dispose of any asbestos in their buildings and fail to protect their employees are liable for asbestos claim pay-outs running into the thousands.

Paul Casey, regional general manager for Biffa’s Industrial and Commercial division, said: “Through our online portal, customers can order, track and manage the disposal of asbestos with ease, ensuring the process is as straightforward as possible.”
