Quality secondhand racking

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Buying good quality secondhand racking is a sensible buying decision. However, to then not adequately protect this asset can be an expensive mistake.

Repairs to racking can be an expensive business so as a standard service Secondhandracking.com encourages its customers to protect their racking with the Protect-it rack protector. The Protect-it has been independently tested and proven to pass the FEM impact tests on both the front and side of the protectors on a standard duty upright. The FEM test is the leading European racking authority to which all national bodies such as SEMA are members.

Fitting rack protection is not only a good commercial decision it is also a recommendation of the HSE. The HSE booklet HSG76 states: “Where racking is likely to be hit by lift trucks, or other vehicles, it should be protected.”

Whereas the HSE does not specify to what standard the protection should meet, it makes sense that the protection system installed meets a recognised standard. Compliance to the HSE minimum standard can cost as little as £10 per upright with the Protect-it.
