Fork Rent, the UK’s largest
independently owned and run selfdrive
plant hire
company, has selected
the VCAS vehicle
collision avoidance
system from Spillard
Safety Systems as the
latest safety aid for its
rapidly expanding
fleet. The company is initially fitting
the system to 24 of its Terex dumpers
to reduce the risk of accidents where

The vision of drivers operating
dumpers can often be severely
limited when the skip is fully loaded.

The VCAS system uses three
ultrasonic beams,
adjustable for both distance
and direction, to give the
operator both an audible
warning and an LED visual
signal if it detects anything
within set parameters –
whether it’s another vehicle,
an obstruction or a person
approaching the dumper.
