How effective is the fire safety design of your buildings?
In October 2016 the Royal Clarence Hotel, a venue of great significance throughout English history since 1769, was devastated by fire that doesn’t appear to have originated within its own structure, but rather fire spreading from a neighbouring building.
Fire also gutted Clandon Park House in 2015 after a lack of fire protection to the fuse cupboard ceiling and its historic design allowed the fire to spread, the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service report said.
These incidents act to remind us that ensuring standards of both passive fire resisting construction are as effective as active measures. These should be equally key components of any risk assessment in construction.
