International safety award

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

AFI has won an International Safety Award with Merit from the British Safety Council for keeping its employees and workplace at the company’s main Support Centre healthy and safe.

Nigel Stevens, AFI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality manager, said: “We are delighted to have won this award and to have achieved 56 points out of a possible 60. This excellent result further highlights AFI’s commitment to health and safety.”

Neal Stone, acting chief executive of the British Safety Council, congratulated AFI on its success: “On behalf of the Trustees and staff of the British Safety Council we warmly congratulate AFI and its employees on gaining an International Safety Award with Merit.

“The International Labour Organisation estimates that every year over 2.3 million people globally are senselessly killed due to workplace injury and work-related ill health and an estimated 4% of global GDP is lost due to health and safety failure. Awards have an important role to play in shining a light on those employers who are taking sensible and effective steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their workers, celebrating their efforts and encouraging other businesses everywhere.”
