One million hour landmark

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

A team from Hertel, the multi-discipline construction and maintenance services company, at the Drax Power Station, near Selby in Yorkshire, has completed one million hours of incident-free working.

The 180-strong team has worked for three years to reach the one million hour landmark. In recognition of the achievement, Hertel and the site owner Drax Power Limited have each given £500 to be donated to charity Cancer Research UK.

At Drax Power Station, Hertel provides contract maintenance services including access solutions, industrial cleaning, thermal insulation, corrosion protection and asbestos management. The safety achievement also includes work carried out during maintenance shutdowns.

Paudie Somers, Hertel UK operations director, said: “To reach one million hours without any incident is a significant achievement. As a business, ‘Safety First’ is one of our core values and this is being demonstrated by the way everyone has contributed to creating a safe working environment for themselves, colleagues and others at the site.”
