Protecting the public

Having recently undergone a £25m
revamp, Haymarket Railway Station
in Edinburgh has made full use of
Coillte Panel Products’ cost effective
Smartply SiteProtect OSB3 boards
for hoarding. The refurbishment
project, which will see the station
become a key interchange, has
utilised SiteProtect to increase
security during the works and to
protect the public from the
hazardous building environment.

Erected along the platforms, stairs,
front of shops and exterior of the
railway station, roughly 2km of
SmartPly SiteProtect, specified by
Morgan Sindall, was installed. The
moisture resistant OSB3, which is
specially coated, provides a hoarding
panel that is said to deliver high
performance, durability and
protection. The substrate, which is
coated with a heavy duty, crosslinked
polymer surface treatment,
offers a smooth finish that eliminates
the need for priming. This means it
can be directly painted over with the
contractor’s own branding or images.
