Ready for the new PPE Regulation?

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Organisations need to ensure their supply chains are ready for the new EU PPE Regulation, to make certain their PPE remains compliant with the new rules and their workforces continue to be protected.

The new Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (EU) 2016/425 comes into force on 21 April 2018, replacing the 1992 PPE Directive. Products certified to the 1992 Directive can still be sold up until 21 April 2019 but manufacturers must certify products to the new Regulation after that date, to ensure they can continue to be sold.

OnSite Support provides a range of safety, welfare, site equipment, tools and products to support the construction industry. The company's MD Warren Lynes said: “The Regulation will now apply to the entire supply chain, with manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers (including online) having the same obligations.”

Lynes continued: “Organisations purchasing PPE need to check their suppliers’ product certification and ask for details on manufacturing processes and quality assurance systems. Reputable manufacturers, suppliers and distributors will be happy to share this information and support clients, with PPE audits for example, to reassure them that their PPE meets the latest standards.

“Not only does OnSite Support ensure all the PPE it supplies conforms to the required EN standards, but it also regularly tests and trials products to ensure they are fit for purpose and perform under the most inhospitable conditions the construction industry can throw at them.”
