Reinventing the wheel

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Industrial technology provider BIBUS is rolling out an electric wheel to help move heavy loads, and offer safety and efficiency benefits to users.

ez-Wheel, the first electric wheel with an integrated motor and batteries, can provide safe, clean and quiet power assistance to all kinds of wheeled equipment used in factories, warehouses and
hospitals. Thanks to their modular design and wireless controls, ez-Wheel units can be fitted quickly
and easily to hospital beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, roll cages, hand trolleys, carts and waste containers.

They can also be used to drive wheeled equipment in the construction, distribution, mobility
and leisure sectors. ez-Wheel’s powerful low voltage motor and high start torque provide impressive maneuverability
up ramps and kerbs, while the integrated control system provides braking assistance as well as
traction on slopes. This makes moving heavy loads safe and comfortable and helps to protect mployees from strains and industrial injuries.

BIBUS director Chris Liddiard said: “Using equipment fitted with ez-Wheel is very similar to working with manual equipment and users take to it intuitively, with no special training required. Even carers who are not physically fit can walk
the immobile in their chairs with minimal effort.”
