Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) is an ideal
arc suppressant for high voltage
switchgear. Unfortunately it also has
the highest Global Warming Potential
of any fluorinated gas. Just 1kg has the
same environmental effect as 22.2
tonnes of CO2.

Since July 2009, EU Regulations
842/2006 and 305/2008 have made it
mandatory that anyone handling or
recovering SF6 has attended an
approved training course, passed an
assessment set by an approved
evaluation and competency body, and
been issued with a certificate of
competence.

EA Technology offers Government
and IET approved training and
certification for anyone involved in
the handling of SF6, as well as training
for managers and supervisors.
“There are fines for non-compliance,
but the greatest motivation is our
responsibility, within industry, to use
SF6 in a safe and environmentally
friendly manner,” says Gary
Eastwood, senior consultant. For
