SMAS Worksafe signs Churchill

Posted on Tuesday 3 May 2022

AWARD-WINNING UK retirement developer, Churchill Retirement Living, has chosen to outsource its stage 1 Health and Safety pre-qualification and on-going supply chain compliance to SMAS Worksafe.

From 1 July 2022 all contractors working on or applying for tenders with Churchill Retirement Living will be required to hold an SSIP certificate issued by SMAS Worksafe.

This new partnership sees Churchill Retirement Living joining the likes of Taylor Wimpey, Redrow, CALA Homes and the University of Warwick as SMAS Worksafe Clients.

Founded in 1994, Churchill Retirement Living started out building stone and thatched cottages under the name of Emlor Homes and found early success winning ‘Housebuilder of the year’ by WhatHouse? Magazine in 1998. Since then they have not only changed the name of the business but have seen substantial growth – building and managing over 200 retirement developments across the UK. That growth has come with an enviable reputation and a cabinet full of awards for building and managing its specialist apartments, which enable older people to enjoy an active, independent and sociable lifestyle in their retirement.

Commenting on the new partnership, SMAS Worksafe commercial director, Chris Woodward-Biddle said, “Churchill Retirement Living is a fantastic addition to the SMAS Worksafe family of clients, and we look forward to working closely with them over the coming months and years.

“Churchill Retirement Living and SMAS Worksafe are committed to making our industry safer – a journey that starts even before sub-contractors set foot on site.”

Lee MacArthur, group commercial and construction director for Churchill Retirement Living said, “As one of the UK’s leading specialist retirement living developers, with sites at various stages of construction across the country, it’s great to be working with such a well-known and respected SSIP Accreditation scheme as SMAS Worksafe. By partnering with SMAS Worksafe we can make our Health & Safety processes even more efficient and improve our site operating systems with a scheme that’s easy to keep track of and manage.”

Contractors that already hold a certificate issued by SMAS Worksafe will also benefit and be able to apply to tender for work with Churchill Retirement Living, further increasing the future prospects of their businesses.
