A recent study, based on those aged
45 and over, showed that if you spend
more than 11 hours a day sitting, you
have a 40% higher chance of dying in
the next three years. The research also
linked sitting down for many hours a
day to causing psychological issues.

Highway and infrastructure service
provider Eurovia has therefore been
encouraging staff members to
increase their daily physical activity
both in and outside of work with its
‘Steps to Health’ campaign and a total
of 183,366,583 steps have been
recorded. A total of 101 teams made
up of 505 employees from across the
Eurovia Group and its joint venture
businesses competed in the
competition.

During the eight week contest, each
team of five recorded the total
number of steps they took each week;
the idea being to take as many steps
as possible during the competition.

Prizes were awarded to the top three
teams and also the three runners up.
