UV treatment

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Some of England’s most famous football clubs are using Hanovia’s UV disinfection technology to purify their hydrotherapy pools.

Water of exceptionally high quality is required within these facilities as the clubs cannot afford for their players to fall ill as a result of water-borne pathogens like Cryptosporidium or Giardia.

James Hadley of Hanovia says: “Bacteria like Cryptosporidium are highly resistant to chlorine and can’t be eliminated by using the chemical on its own – an additional step is required to ensure their complete removal. UV is now one of the most popular methods of destroying them. In addition, chloramines – the unpleasant by-products of chlorination – can be effectively removed with UV.

According to James UV is also cheaper and safer than the other non-chlorine treatment method, ozonation.
