Who is driving your club’s minibus?
Voluntary groups using their own minibus should get their drivers trained, a leading road safety organisation has warned.
Drivers with a normal car licence who meet the “most basic criteria” are allowed to volunteer to drive a 3.5 tonne 17 seater minibus, without any formal training and carry children to a social or sports events, revealed Adrian Hide, director of the Road Safety Services division of the TTC Group.
Burton Venture Trust, a Staffordshire-based voluntary club, organises training for all its staff.
The Trust’s Graham Marshment praised TTC Road Safety Services’ (TTCRSS) driver assessment. “It was the most efficient training by far that we have ever had in 20 years of using minibuses at our club.”
Drivers are assessed in detail over a 90 minute drive by a top instructor, followed by an in-depth report on their driving.
