Workplace productivity study
Global think-tank Leesman has launched a research project to the corporate real estate market that aims to reveal the building blocks that have the greatest impact when looking to boost labour productivity and employee satisfaction.
This crowdsourced initiative will marry corporate real estate performance data with 18 million+ lines of user experience data that has already been amassed.
The study directly tests the impact of key occupation strategy decisions on employee satisfaction. It will examine the fabric of the buildings and the occupation strategies to see whether occupant density impacts on employee productivity, and if desk-sharing ratios have a tipping point. The research will also shed light on whether the vertical distribution of employees across floors affects the wider sense of community or impacts learning from others.
Since 2012, Leesman has awarded high performing workplaces, with an ‘Lmi’ functionality and effectiveness score of 70 or more, the prestigious Leesman+ accreditation. To date, just 4% of the 1,400 buildings surveyed have achieved this award. The commonalities among this elite group – including the presence of a central atrium, lower density occupation etc. – suggest that there may be a link between the physical infrastructure and the effectiveness of the people working within it.
